There were two separate Kavanagh families living concurrently in the 154-acre coastal townland of Askintinny during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
While it is easy to assume they were closely related branches of the same family tree, it is clear that these were two entirely separate, unrelated Kavanagh lineages.
Henry Kavanagh (born c1853), son of James, married Margaret Stafford on 20 Nov 1894 in Arklow. James is likely the James Kavanagh recorded in the 1852 Griffiths Valuation of County Wicklow.
