John Kavanagh

John Kavanagh was born on 1 April 1884 at 'Rock Big', Arklow - the eldest son of fisherman Thomas Kavanagh and Jane Murray. During his early childhood, the family relocated slightly south into the bustling maritime area of Tinahask.

Tragically, John did not survive to adulthood. He passed away in Tinahask on 28 May 1891, at just seven years of age. His official cause of death was recorded as "decline, 6 months," a term frequently used to describe a gradual, heartbreaking physical wasting away - often resulting from chronic illnesses of the era, such as tuberculosis (consumption) or malnutrition following a severe childhood infection.

Bridget Byrne, acted as the official informant, traveling to the Arklow district office to register her young nephew's passing on 30 June 1891.
