Laurence Kavanagh

Laurence Kavanagh was born c1895 in Tinahask, Arklow, to fisherman Thomas Kavanagh and Jane Murray.

1901 Census

At six years old, Laurence is recorded living with his parents and siblings at Tinahask Lower, listed as a scholar attending school.

1911 Census

By sixteen, Laurence had entered the workforce, recorded at Tinahask Street Lower as a General Labourer.

1926 Census

At thirty-one years of age, Laurence was still residing in the family home at Tinahask Lower with his father Thomas and stepmother Margaret. While his older brothers had moved on or established separate homes, Laurence remained part of the original household.

Laurence played a vital role during key milestones for his siblings. On 28 October 1925, when his older brother William married Sarah Kinsella at the Roman Catholic Church in Arklow, Laurence stood by his side as the best man and official witness.

He also endured family sorrow in the household, witnessing the loss of his mother, Jane, who passed away in Tinahask on 6 January 1918.

Marriage to Julia Weadick

On 12 October 1932, Laurence married Julia Weadick in Arklow.

The wedding was witnessed by Samuel Weadick and Elizabeth Weadick.
