Teresa Kavanagh

Teresa Kavanagh was born on 3rd March 1873 at Askintinny to John Kavanagh and Elizabeth Death. 

Remarkably, her birth came just one day after the tragic death of her brother, William, on 2nd March. Her father, John, registered both William’s death and Teresa’s birth on consecutive days in April 1873.

Teresa spent her childhood in Askintinny, but her life was cut short a few years later. She passed away on 2nd May 1879 at the age of 6 years. Her cause of death was recorded as smallpox, which she fought for eight days without medical attendance.

Her loss marked the beginning of a devastating week for the family, as her four-year-old brother, James, succumbed to the same outbreak just three days later on 5th May. Their father, John, was present at both passings and registered their consecutive entries side-by-side in the civil registry on 23rd May 1879.
