Lizzie Kavanagh

Lizzie Kavanagh was born at Rock Big, Arklow on 23 December 1899, the eldest daughter of Denis Kavanagh and Julia Reilly. Her birth was registered on 21 March 1900, with Sarah Massey of Hudson's Square listed as the informant present at the birth.

1901 Census

One-year-old Lizzie Kavanagh was recorded living with her parents, Denis and Julia, and her brother Patrick at 32 Proby's Row, Arklow.

1911 Census

Listed as living in Household 11, Rock Big with her parents and seven siblings; Patrick, Denis, Mary, James, William, Edward and Michael.

1926 Census

Recorded as 24-year-old Lizzy Kavanagh, working as a live-in "General Domestic Servant" on the farm of William Kinch and his family in Rock Little.

Marriage to Laurence Murray

On 8 February 1937, Elizabeth married Laurence Murray at the Roman Catholic Church in Arklow. Laurence, a bachelor and labourer from Ballinacor, Avoca, was the son of Alexander Murray, also a labourer.

At the time of their marriage, Elizabeth was residing at Askintinny, Arklow, with her father's occupation recorded as a fisherman. 

The marriage was witnessed by Thomas Murray and Elizabeth's cousin, Esther Kavanagh, with Elizabeth signing her name as "Lizzie Kavanagh" in the register.
