Denis Dunne

Denis Dunne was born at Askintinny on 12 September 1892, the son of Peter Dunne and Catherine Kavanagh. His birth was registered two months later by his mother.

Denis grew up among his family in Askintinny and Rock Big.

1901 Census

At eight years old, Denis was recorded at House 9, Rock Big, living with his parents and siblings.

1911 Census

Following his father's death in 1905, eighteen-year-old Denis was living in Rock Big with his widowed mother, Catherine, and worked as a general labourer alongside his brother John to support the household.

In his mid-twenties, Denis contracted general tuberculosis, battling the illness for a year. On 27 February 1919, Denis passed away at Warrens, Arklow, at the age of twenty-six (recorded as 25 on the register). His mother, Catherine, was present and registered his death at the Arklow district office on 14 March 1919.
